The Wisdom Tooth Extraction Process

Wisdom tooth extraction is generally performed one of two ways – simple or surgical. When conducting a simple procedure, Dr. Boyles will administer local anesthesia before taking a dental elevator and lifting the partially erupted tooth from its socket. Since it’s unlikely to immediately detach, he will grasp the tooth with dental pliers and gently move it back and forth. In no time, it will be free of the socket.
If these teeth are below the gumline, a surgical procedure will be required. This involves opening the gums to expose the underlying tooth and bone. To avoid irritating or bothering the bone as much as possible, Dr. Boyles may separate the tooth into sections for an easier removal process.
